After years of working with young athletes, coaches of varying skill levels and "skill specific" private instructors, we observed that even the best coaches/instructors sometimes misinterpret the cause versus symptoms of bad mechanics and lesser skilled coaches actually cause more harm than good by continually reinforcing bad mechanics through repetitious but incorrect drills. We began to research how athletes learn motion skills and discovered there were much better methods and coaching tools available but only to professional teams, high level college sports programs or commercial sports training facilities.
Ever wonder why athletes continue to make the same mistakes over and over?
"Internalization" Most athletes misinterpret fast paced movements they visualize. Unfortunately, the more they practice and repeat the incorrect mechanic the more ingrained it becomes (so called muscle memory) The result is a reduction in the athlete's ability to master the skill, which leads to erratic performance in the game, frustration, lack of enthusiasm and sometimes, injury.
What is EDGE Motion Video Analysis?
We use professional quality digital video cameras and motion analysis software to augment the standard coaching regimen at all athletic levels. By skillfully capturing an athlete's mechanics at the proper angles we accomplish the following:
- Expose mechanical flaws not visible to the naked eye
- Improve communication between coach and athlete
- Teach the athlete to properly "internalize" verbal and visual coaching cues
- Assist the coaching staff in developing appropriate corrective drills
- Break bad habits that inhibit skill advancement
Session Types Available:
One-on-one live on-screen video and slow motion instant reply (interactive and immediate)
Capture live video to computer for instant review and analysis (allows, multi-angle perspective/side by side comparison, advanced slow motion analysis and use of drawing tools)
Capture to DV tape (allows all the above) plus "mechanic" speed analysis - uses less practice time for capturing a greater amount of video, but review and analysis is delayed until a subsequent practice or review session.
Review-Analysis-Drill Recommendations - range from isolation of key mechanic components presented from 3 angles via color print-outs with comprehensive analysis presented on Video CD for review on coach's or athlete's home computer complete with software "viewer". Plus personalized corrective drill recommendations designed by EDGE's team of skill mechanic and personal training experts.
All sessions include an athlete's individual vital statistic spreadsheet
